Exposed

So I've decided to enter a Photography Show this year, one that a number of my Flickr buddies from the early days of Flickr have shown in previous years. This will be my first time applying for something like this, but I want to get more involved in photography this year, so I figure that this is a great way to do it. I'd like to get more involved in the local art scene, as vast as it has become here in DC. Most of all, I want to learn more techniques and how to operate my camera to it's fullest potential, so that more of my favorite shots are crafted- rather than happy accidents.

DCist Exposed is the show, and I'm able to submit up to 3 photos for selection. The idea is that they be in the 'general geographic area'. Still, judges have provided some information on the blogs about the fact that while they prefer local images, ones taken in farther locations can certainly be submitted. They are just less likely to be chosen unless they are truly spectacular. In essence- it'd be a throwaway entry (which is a bummer- cause I've got some sweet shots from Nice). Photos of common landmarks are also discouraged. The one photo that I KNOW I'm going to submit, is this one:

And this is where you come in. I've whittled down some of my favorite local photos (and one or two 'throwaways') and posted them below. You can click each image to see a larger version on black, if that helps you choose. Winners are selected by January 14th, so there's even a quick turnaround for me to report back and let you know if I got in! Please post a comment and let me know which 2 of the photos below you think I should submit!

1)tiles 2)swing 3)sparkly 4)heights 5)quality time 6)the red shoes 7)2009.03

I gotta admit feeling a little weird about including a self-portrait in the pile, but I took it this weekend and really like the lighting effect going on in there (and THEY don't know it's a self-portrait, plus I haven't seen... uh... ANY... in the submission group). Also, if you've seen something in my photostream that you think I should've posted here but didn't, let me know! Last year's winners are here, and the current entries (my competition) are posted here.

I like the mother and child very much #1, I would include the parade group? swing as #2, though I would prob change the title. Have fun. Even if you don't win, you win!
